Army Soldier Forced to Sleep on Train Floor With Child, Wife Appeals to Government
An Indian Army soldier returning to duty after leave was forced to sleep on a train floor with his young child after failing to get a reserved seat. His wife, Komal, has appealed to the government for changes, sparking debate on social media.
A video showing the soldier sleeping on the train floor with his child has been shared by his wife on Instagram. In an emotional post, Komal appealed to the government to change the existing arrangements for soldiers travelling by train. She also stressed that soldiers should not be treated as a joke, highlighting the difficulties they face while returning to duty after leave.
Komal's husband serves in the Indian Army. According to her Instagram post, the family had to travel without a reserved seat because no suitable berth was available for the soldier when he was returning to duty.
In the video shared on Instagram, text describes how Komal repeatedly requested the Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) to arrange a proper seat for her husband. However, she alleged that the TTE provided suitable seats only to passengers who paid extra money.
Komal also explained that such situations are not always about money. Soldiers sometimes receive leave at the last minute or are suddenly called back to duty. As a result, they have to travel under difficult conditions because seats on trains are often already occupied.
In the caption accompanying the video, Komal made an emotional appeal to the government, asking it to revise the arrangements for soldiers travelling with their families.
“As the wife of a soldier, I appeal to the government to please change the system. Soldiers are not a joke. They sacrifice their careers for our country. They know that death could call them at any time, yet they still choose this profession,” she wrote.
Komal also acknowledged that ordinary passengers could consider leaving some train berths available for soldiers. However, she pointed out that passengers often book all the seats in advance, leaving little flexibility for military personnel whose travel plans may change unexpectedly.
“Our soldiers do not have long journeys planned in advance. Whenever they get leave, they rush straight towards their homes. The Government of India should do something for our Indian soldiers,” she said in her post.
The video received widespread attention on social media, attracting 2.6 million views, 130,000 likes and approximately 2,500 comments.
One user commented that people respect soldiers only on social media. Another user, Shabana, questioned why some seats could not be reserved for soldiers and their families, given the high number of bookings on trains.
Another user called for a separate quota for military personnel, arguing that their leave schedules are not always decided in advance. The user said such an arrangement would allow the government to demonstrate respect for those who serve the country while making sacrifices in their family lives.
The incident has prompted social media users to discuss whether special travel arrangements or a separate reservation quota should be considered for soldiers who need to return to duty at short notice. Komal's appeal has brought attention to the challenges military personnel and their families may encounter when travelling during periods of heavy demand for train seats.
According to her Instagram profile, Komal regularly creates videos about travel, makeup, cooking, lifestyle, fashion and education. She shares the content on both Instagram and YouTube. Her Instagram account, komalkridu, has approximately 8,000 followers, while her YouTube channel has more than 51,000 subscribers.
